| Outreach Programs Sport Northern Outreach Program in the Galilee Christmas Programs Sport Children and teens from East Jerusalem are very much a part of the Jerusalem YMCA sports programs. In addition to participating in our regular basketball and swim programs, the YMCA facilities are made available for special programming. The Helen Keller School for the Visually Impaired has the opportunity to participate in sports and swimming activities and greatly benefit from facilities which are not available in East Jerusalem. Back to the top Northern Outreach Program in the Galilee In 2004, the Jerusalem International YMCA established an outreach center in the mixed Christian and Muslim village of Eilaboun in the Galilee. During the first year, programs were offered which specifically served the needs of the community of Eilaboun, in a mutually tolerant atmosphere. During 2005-2006, these services have expanded to Arab and Jewish villages in the area. The emphasis of the program is on work between Christians and Muslims in the Galilee. However, some of the programs also offer reconciliation work between Jews, Christians and Muslim. The program now includes mixed horseback riding program for teens, an after school Study Program, a recreational youth club, a summer day camp, a music program, film series, and a Jewish-Christian-Muslim program for 5th and 6th graders (the Galilee Olive Program). Childrens Christmas Party For more than fifty years, the Jerusalem International YMCA has brought joy to hundreds of children each year at its orphans Christmas party. A decorated Christmas tree, live entertainment, food and Santa Claus bearing gifts, make this a day to remember for all the children, including our special friends from the blind school. For many of the children this is their one special day of the year. This program is made possible by the generosity of friends in Jerusalem and abroad. If you wish to help support this program please contact us. Decorating the Christmas Tree A festive evening for all the family held in the YMCA lobby. The Christmas tree is decorated, carols are sung and holiday treats are served. Christmas Eve Family Carol Service The annual Christmas Eve service includes scripture readings and carols. The carillon rings out into the cold winter evening and a reception is held in the YMCA lobby. Back to the top
